We are well into our market season with more than 40 full-time and part-time vendors from all over Nova Scotia’s South Shore.

Join us every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm beside the Visitor Information Centre in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, for the Privateer Farmers and Artisans Market.

We are well into our market season with more than 40 full-time and part-time vendors from all over Nova Scotia’s South Shore.

We have an eclectic lineup of produce, honey, preserves, meat, baked goods, prepared foods, and many artisanal vendors from jewelry, fabric and visual artists to craftspeople selling rope mats, soaps, beeswax candles, hand-hewn tables, chairs, spoons and baskets and many more.

We even have candy!

In addition to all of our amazing vendors, we have a great lineup of musicians to help entertain you every Saturday.

Job posting: Market manager, 2023 season

We are looking for a market manager for our 2023 season!

The Privateer Farmers and Artisans Market in Liverpool, N.S., is seeking an energetic and reliable individual to become our new part-time Market Manager. As Market Manager, you are the initial point of contact for vendors and an integral part of the overall Market's success. Running from May to October (plus three Christmas Markets), the Market provides access to fresh local produce, diverse food, local services, and artisanal crafts. Located primarily in Centennial Park, downtown Liverpool, NS.

Description: Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Market Manager is key to the ongoing success of the Privateer Farmers and Artisans Market, and will be responsible for managing the week-to-week planning and operation of the market. 

Key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Vendor selection and market bookings (including music/entertainment during market hours)

  • Presence at each market day, (Saturdays in Liverpool) as well as all holiday markets

  • Working with health and licensing authorities to arrange food vendor approvals, ensure food safety compliance and any other permits required for the ongoing operation of the Market

  • Evaluating and developing relationships with new market vendors, timely processing of new vendor applications and feedback to the potential new vendors on the status of their application

  • Market set­up and take down, organizing and distributing vendor placement maps

  • Collecting vendor table fees, distributing receipts and meticulous record keeping

  • Awareness/enforcement of market policy and dispute resolution

  • Communicating information to vendors and the Board of Directors  and participation in board meetings as required

  • Marketing the Privateers Farmers and Artisans Market to the public via social media, internet and other means. 

Requirements: 

  • Outstanding communication skills

  • Experience working within a professional capacity with a diverse population

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Genuine interest in local & sustainable food systems, food security, and small businesses

  • Physical ability to set up and move tables/booths, and extended periods of walking on market days

  •  Competent computer skills; knowledge of social media platforms 

  • Comfortable with counting and recording money transactions

  • A valid driver’s licence and ongoing access to a vehicle

  • The willingness to work all Saturdays during market season, plus some additional flexibility in scheduling as needed

Compensation:

This is a contract position, paid $20.00 per hour. The hours may vary weekly, but the expectation is that the incumbent will work approximately 10-15 hrs/week in weeks that the market is running (from late May to October inclusive, plus holiday markets in November & December.)
